Some cities have a moment, and then they're done. Pittsburgh, however, is far from done.
For a few years now, our beloved Steel City has received countless accolades as an affordable and popular travel spot, along with rave reviews about our culinary revolution and tech boom. Creativity of all kinds — food, drink, art, performance, tech and more — has helped America’s most underrated city to become a must-see destination.
So if you haven’t yet registered to be one of the 40,000 people participating in the 10th Anniversary of the DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon weekend of events, what are you waiting for? Pittsburgh's lively dining and entertainment scenes are waiting to be explored both before you toe that start line and after you cross that finish line.
Top Food City
Pittsburgh has been named a “Top Food City” by many organizations, including Kayak, National Geographic Traveller and Zagat - and for good reason. Our food scene has expanded so quickly that you’d be hard pressed to take in all the mouth-watering options.
The foodie boom means you have plenty of options to choose from, and even if you can’t decide, you can enjoy a food-tasting adventure with the ‘Burgh Bits and Bites' tour. If a delicious pre- or post-race meal is a top priority, just know that you can come hungry and leave satisfied.
Though it is sometimes lost in Pittsburgh’s rust-to-riches story, arts and culture have played major role in our city’s comeback. Our Cultural District is home to hundreds of retail shops and restaurants, as well as seven world-class theaters. There are also plenty of museums, music venues, dance clubs, art galleries and more - all walkable from Downtown. Pittsburgh is full of surprises, and together, they will entertain you long before and after the race.
It’s true you will never be short of something to do in the 412
, and we promise it will be even more exciting for runners from May 4-6, 2018.
so you won’t miss out on the energy and excitement of race weekend in 2018! We have so many 10th Anniversary surprises in store - commemorative medals and shirts, special giveaways, unique celebrations and more - that we want as many Runners of Steel here for the milestone celebration as possible.
This is the fifth post in a blog series inspired by our 10th anniversary celebration. Check back on the 10th of every month for the top reasons why the Steel City is on everyone’s hot list, and more importantly, why you should join us at the DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon weekend of events from May 4-6, 2018 to celebrate #10YearsRunning in Pittsburgh.
