Title sponsor DICK’S Sporting Goods is committed to race until 2021 and has been title sponsor since the race relaunched in 2009
PITTSBURGH - The 10th anniversary of the DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon is right around the corner, and title sponsor DICK’S Sporting Goods plans to celebrate in big ways this year. The Pittsburgh-based sports retailer has sponsored the race since its return in 2009 and is committed to the race until 2021.The weekend of events is one of the fastest growing in the country with more than 40,000 participants expected for the 10th anniversary, May 4-6, 2018.
“At DICK’S, we believe that sports make people better and supporting athletes in every way we can is an important part of our Company’s community efforts,” said Mark Rooks, Vice President, Sports & Community Marketing. “We’re proud to support the running community of Pittsburgh and this great event for another two years and look forward to celebrating our 10th anniversary as title sponsor with next year’s race. It’s been extremely rewarding to watch the Marathon grow since its relaunch in 2009, and we’re honored to have been part of it.”
The community impact of the race goes beyond race day. Since 2009, the event has raised more than $10 million for charity, and more than 24,000 children have participated in the Toyota of Pittsburgh Kids Marathon while completing the physical activity and nutrition program Kids of STEEL. The event has continued to grow its elite athlete program and has hosted top international and national runners, including Olympians and national champions. The success of this program earned the event the opportunity to host the 2018 and 2019 USA Track & Field Half Marathon Championships.
“DICK’S Sporting Goods has been an invaluable partner from the beginning and helped us get to where we are today,” said Troy Schooley, Senior Vice President, Partnerships and Sales at P3R. “Because of their support, we’ve been able to host a world-class event that has benefited our charity community and inspired a passionate running base in Pittsburgh. We are excited to continue our partnership and do bigger and better things in 2018 and beyond.”
Revived in 2009, the DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon debuted with a sold-out field of 10,000 participants. It has grown each year, and runners young and old are expected for the 2018 events, including the DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon, UPMC Health Plan Pittsburgh Half Marathon, FedEx Ground Pittsburgh Marathon Relay, UPMC Sports Medicine/UPMC Health Plan Pittsburgh 5K Run, Toyota Pittsburgh Kids Marathon, Rachael Ray™ Nutrish® Pittsburgh Pet Walk and Pittsburgh Toddler Trot.
