DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon is the first local race to partner with the campaign
Pittsburgh, PA — P3R, the event organizers of the DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon, have partnered with the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) public awareness campaign, “If You See Something, Say Something™.”
“If You See Something, Say Something™” is a national campaign that raises public awareness of the indicators of terrorism and terrorism-related crime, as well as the importance of reporting suspicious activity to state and local law enforcement.
“See Something, Say Something™ is not a program about making people afraid that something is going to happen, but instead an initiative in hometown security that everyone can use to contribute to enhancing safety at public assembly sites,” said Bob Winters, US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Protective Security Advisor for Western Pennsylvania.
To help ensure a safe race experience, P3R encourages runners, volunteers and spectators to be aware of their surroundings and report any suspicious person or activities by contacting 9-1-1 or notifying nearby law enforcement personnel.
P3R works with both federal and local agencies to develop safety and security plans for its year-long calendar of races, which annually attracts more than 40,000 runners and 200,000 spectators. This year, Wabtec Corporation has signed on as the Official Safety Partner of the DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon, and like P3R, is committed to offering a safe, top quality experience from start to finish.
“In 2019, Wabtec will celebrate 150 years of history and heritage as a Pittsburgh-based company,” said Wabtec President and CEO Ray Betler. “That heritage is built on the vision of our founder, George Westinghouse, and his lifelong pursuit of innovations that make the world safer. The safety of our products, our employees and our community remains at the heart of who we are as a company. For all these reasons, Wabtec is proud to serve as the Official Safety Partner of the DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon.”
